Frequently asked questions

Are the acoustic wood wall panels finished?

Our standard Acouwood® panels come the raw and unfinished timber veneer. If you would like to finish it with lacquer or oil, you could do it as a fun DIY project, or consider our Acouwood® Lacquered series.

The lacquered panels appear slighly richer and darker in colour, but most importantly, are more durable and colourfast compared to unfinished panels, and are less likely to "fade" or "yellow" over time, especially with exposure to sunlight.

How do the acoustic wood panels arrive?

Acouwood® comes in carefully packaged cardboard boxes. They come in standard sizes of 2700mm (2.7m) and can be cut down to the wall size, installed horizontally or in a patterned structure. They typically fit most walls up to 2900mm (2.9m), as they are typically installed between the skirting boards and ceiling architrave cornices.

Are the panels fire-rated?

Our Acouwood® panel are tested to Australian Standards AS ISO 9705-2003, the full scale room fire testing, which involves a full installation of the panels in a burning chamber. Acouwood® received a Group 3 rating, making it suitable for many commercial areas and suitable for residential areas in bush-fire zones.

On which surfaces can I install the panels?

Acouwood® panels can be mounted on all surfaces (walls, ceilings and joinery), including gyprock, plywood, brick, concrete, plasterboard. They can be installed on wall and ceiling battens with the recommended gap of less than 600mm. Note: If installed on battens, the panels are for decorative purposes only and not load bearing, so they should not be subject to any weight.

Can the panels be used outside?

Acouwood wall panels are designed for indoor use only, or enclosed outdoor areas not exposed to the elements or direct sunlight.

Can the panels be used in wet areas e.g. bathroom or kitchen?

Panels are fine in these areas if not in direct contact with water. However, as a real timber product, it will be susceptible to warping and mould if left in contact with water.

We recommend choosing our Acouwood® Lacquered - this provides additional water-resistance and makes it completely splash-resistant.

We have two completely waterproof products - SlatWall Pro and SlatWall Lite for bathroom and waterprone areas.

What is your returns policy?

We are absolute believers in our product and we provide the most generous returns policy in the industry, where you can return any resellable products to us for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

You will need to transport the returned product to us safely and in original condition for us to honour the return. Any costs associated with transporting it back to our warehouse will be your responsibility. Please see our full returns policy here.

What do I do if I have plug sockets, windows, or other items to install around?

Acouwood® can be adjusted to fit around objects by cutting the slats and felt. It's easy to DIY - you can cut through the felt with a simple pocket knife and you may cut into the timber slats with a multi-tool. For sawing through the panel, we would normally recommend a fine-tooth circular saw with a track.

Panels are designed to join width-ways and long ways seamlessly for any length or width. It’s super simple to join panels - just place them next to each other and nail or glue into the wall.
