Every year the same thing happens. Black Friday arrives, a wall you have been quietly eyeing for months suddenly feels within reach, and then the decisions all land at once: which panel, which finish, how many metres, and will it actually suit the room? Rushed choices are the ones people second-guess. The good news is that the best feature walls of the season are usually planned weeks earlier, in a calm October rather than a frantic November.
This is a simple countdown for doing exactly that, so that by the time the sale opens you already know what you want.
Start with the wall, not the product
Before you look at a single finish, decide which wall is doing the work. A feature wall earns its place when it anchors a room: the wall behind the bed, the one your eye lands on as you walk into the living area, the stretch behind the TV or the dining table. Stand in the doorway at different times of day and notice where the light falls and where the room feels flat or echoey.
Then measure it. Height by width, minus any windows or doors, gives you the surface area to cover. Add a small allowance for cuts and offcuts (about 10 percent is a sensible starting point). It takes ten minutes, and it turns "I think I need a few panels" into a number you can order against with confidence.

Match the range to the room
Different rooms ask different things of a wall, and WoodSpace's ranges are built around that.
For living rooms, bedrooms and home offices where warmth and a calmer sound matter, the Acouwood range pairs a real timber veneer with a recycled felt backing that helps soften echo. Beyond the visual impact, a slat feature wall can also create a more balanced acoustic environment, which you notice most in open-plan spaces.
For bathrooms, laundries and kitchen splashbacks, you need a surface that can handle moisture. The SlatWall Pro range combines the look of natural timber with a waterproof HydroGuard surface. If the same look matters but the budget is tighter, the SlatWall Lite range brings the same vertical rhythm in a lighter, more affordable build.

If you want a paintable, adaptable finish for a curved wall or custom joinery, Flexo panels are the one to look at. And if the look you want is marble, travertine or stone, the Stone Design series gets you there without a stonemason.

The feature wall doesn't have to stop at the back door, either. WoodSpace's Outdoor SlatWall cladding is built for alfresco walls and covered outdoor spaces, and the new Outdoor SlatWall Batten range is made to screen, shade and divide. Both come in the same six colours: Tasmanian Oak, Blackbutt, Black, White, Walnut and Teak. If you're weighing up an outdoor project, our first look at outdoor panels explains how they hold up.

Working out which of these suits your wall now means you are choosing from a short list on sale day, not the whole catalogue. If you want a hand narrowing it down, our range-by-range guide lays the options out side by side.
Order samples early, and let them live with you
This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that matters most. Timber tones shift with your lighting, your floors and the paint beside them. A finish that looks perfect on a screen can read warmer or cooler against your own wall.
Order a few samples in October, prop them against the wall, and leave them there for a week. Look at them in the morning, in the evening, under lamplight. See the texture. Feel the difference. If you'd rather see the range in person, you can book a showroom visit too. By the time the sale opens, the decision is already made, and you are simply placing the order you planned.
And if you're torn between real timber veneer and a printed timber-look finish, our real timber vs timber-look article is worth a read before the samples arrive.
Know what installation involves
Part of planning is knowing what you are signing up for, and our installation page is the best place to start. Most WoodSpace panels are designed for a confident DIY install in a day, glued or fixed to gyprock, plywood, brick or concrete, with no specialist tools or wet trades. Acclimatise the panels in the room for 24 hours before you start, and make sure your wall is clean, dry and stable. Our install guide walks through it step by step, from measuring to final fix.
If your project is bigger (a full commercial fit-out, multiple rooms, or a complicated surface), it is worth looking at WoodSpace's trade options, and speaking to the team before you order. A short conversation now saves a lot of guesswork later.

A simple four-week countdown
Four weeks out, choose your wall and take your measurements. Three weeks out, shortlist the range and finishes that suit the room. Two weeks out, order samples and start living with them. One week out, confirm your quantities, add your allowance for cuts, and decide on the finish you keep coming back to. When the sale opens, you place the order and book the weekend for installation.
None of it is complicated. It just front-loads the thinking, so the sale becomes the easy part.
The verdict
If a feature wall is on your list this year, the smartest thing you can do is start now. Plan the wall, match the range to the room, and get samples in your hands before the busy season. You will make a calmer decision, and almost certainly a better one.
