Outdoor SlatWall™ Cladding & Battens

An outdoor wall should work as hard as it looks. Outdoor SlatWall™ brings the warmth of timber to façades, boundary walls, privacy screens and alfresco areas, built from waterproof WPC (wood-plastic composite) so there's no oiling, staining or sealing to keep up with.

There are two ways to build the look. Outdoor SlatWall™ Cladding Panels have a bold, castellated slat profile that covers a wall in one go, ideal for feature walls, entryways and fencing upgrades. Outdoor SlatWall™ Battens are slim 60 x 40mm lengths you space yourself, so you can shape a lighter, more architectural screen that lets light and air through. Use one on its own, or combine both to layer texture across a single project.

Both come in the same six colours, Tasmanian Oak, Blackbutt, Teak, Walnut, Black and White, so an entire exterior can tie together. Every product is backed by our warranty, and our Accessories range covers the screws, trims and end caps for a clean, finished result.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Outdoor SlatWall™ Batten and Outdoor Cladding?

They're built for different jobs. Outdoor Panel is a full cladding panel, designed to cover a wall or surface outright. Outdoor Batten is a single 60 x 40mm profile run to 3.6m, meant to be fixed individually onto a sub-frame with whatever spacing you choose between each piece, so you get a screened, slatted look rather than a solid clad surface. If you want full coverage and a seamless finish, Outdoor Panel is the one to reach for. If you're after that architectural screening effect, spaced battens letting light and airflow through, or a more custom, adjustable look, Outdoor Batten is the better fit.

How do you install Outdoor SlatWall™ cladding panels correctly?

Outdoor cladding must be installed onto timber or aluminium battens and should never be fixed directly to walls or solid surfaces. Batten installation is essential to allow proper airflow and drainage behind the outdoor cladding panels, supporting long-term durability and compliance in exterior applications. Battens should be level, securely fixed and spaced correctly to provide consistent structural support. Outdoor cladding panels can be installed vertically or horizontally, depending on your design preference. During installation, appropriate expansion gaps must be allowed to accommodate natural movement caused by temperature changes, particularly in Australian climates. Pre-drilling is recommended to ensure a clean, precise finish and to reduce stress on the panels. For a secure and streamlined installation, we also supply compatible outdoor cladding screws as well as matching corner trims and edge trims to achieve a refined, professional result. For optimal performance and warranty protection, professional installation is strongly recommended. Always refer to the official installation guide for detailed specifications and spacing requirements before commencing your outdoor cladding project.

How do you install Outdoor SlatWall™ Battens?

Battens fix onto a horizontal sub-frame, with supports spaced no more than 600mm apart. Pre-drill each batten with a 5mm bit at every point it meets the frame, then secure it with one screw per rail, we'd recommend the outdoor batten screw built for exactly this. For a clean, hidden-screw finish, drive the screw 8 to 10mm below the surface and tap in a colour-matched plug, or if you'd rather a visible fixing, drive it flush with the face instead. Both vertical and horizontal orientations work, and spacing between battens is entirely up to you and the look you're after.

Is Outdoor SlatWall™ cladding waterproof and UV resistant?

Yes. Our Outdoor cladding is specifically engineered to be both waterproof and UV resistant, making it suitable for Australian exterior conditions. Manufactured from advanced WPC wood plastic composite, Outdoor SlatWall™ is designed to resist water penetration, helping prevent swelling, rotting, cracking or structural movement. This makes it ideal for façades, alfresco areas and exterior feature walls exposed to rain and humidity. In Australia’s harsh climate, this protection is essential to maintain colour consistency and long-term performance. Unlike traditional timber, Outdoor SlatWall™ does not require ongoing sealing or staining to withstand the elements. It is a low-maintenance, purpose-built exterior cladding solution designed to perform in heat, coastal air and changing weather conditions.

What is the best outdoor cladding for Australian weather conditions?

The best outdoor cladding for Australian weather conditions is a UV-resistant, waterproof and dimensionally stable material that can handle intense sun, heavy rain, coastal salt air and constant temperature changes. In Australia, exterior cladding needs to do more than look good. It must resist fading, moisture damage, warping and expansion over time. Outdoor SlatWall™ is designed specifically for exterior performance. Made from advanced WPC wood plastic composite, it offers the natural look of timber with enhanced durability and structural stability. Unlike traditional timber, it will not rot, crack or splinter when exposed to moisture or fluctuating temperatures. For long-term reliability, outdoor cladding provides strong UV protection, high moisture resistance, durability in coastal environments and low maintenance requirements. Our Outdoor SlatWall™ is a purpose-built exterior system that not only elevates the look of your space but continues to perform in Australia’s demanding climate for years to come.

How do you clean and maintain Outdoor SlatWall™ Battens?

About as low as outdoor maintenance gets. Because the WPC core is fully capped rather than left exposed, there's no oiling, sanding or painting required, ever, unlike a timber batten that needs regular upkeep to keep resisting the weather. A clean as needed, whatever that looks like for your spot, a wipe down or a hose-off if it's picked up dust or grime, is genuinely all it takes to keep it looking as sharp as day one.

How do you finish the ends of the battens neatly?

With Outdoor Batten Capping, sold separately, and honestly worth adding to your order rather than an afterthought. It gives cut ends and exposed edges a clean, concealed finish rather than leaving the composite core visible, which matters most on a screen or façade where the ends are on show. If you're planning a full run across the Outdoor Batten range, it's the small addition that takes the finished look from "good DIY job" to properly professional.

Can the spacing between Outdoor SlatWall™ Battens be adjusted?

Yes, spacing is entirely up to you, there's no fixed gap you're locked into. Tighter spacing gives more privacy and a fuller, more solid-looking screen, while wider gaps let more light and airflow through and read a bit more open and architectural. The battens are also flexible enough to run vertically or horizontally depending on the effect you're after, so between orientation and spacing there's a fair bit of room to tailor the finished look to your specific façade, screen or entryway.

What can Outdoor SlatWall™ Batten be used for?

Quite a lot, honestly. These battens are built for exterior architectural detailing wherever you want clean, natural-looking lines outdoors: privacy screens, façades, boundary features, entryways, alfresco areas, pergolas, planter boxes, and even as a cladding substructure. Because they install vertically or horizontally with adjustable spacing, they suit a full screening wall just as easily as a subtle accent along an entryway or fence line. Both residential and commercial projects are a genuine fit here, so whether you're screening a side courtyard at home or detailing a café façade, the same batten does the job. If you're picturing a specific application and want a second opinion on spacing or layout, get in touch and we can talk through your project.

How do Outdoor SlatWall™ Battens hold up outdoors, are they actually weatherproof?

Yes, and that's really the whole point of building them from WPC (wood-plastic composite) with a fully protective capping layer rather than solid timber. They resist moisture, UV fading, insects and rot, the kind of damage that eventually catches up with real timber outdoors no matter how well you maintain it. There's no oiling, sanding or painting required, ever, the finish is built in rather than applied on top. That's a genuinely different maintenance reality to a timber batten, which needs regular attention to keep looking good and stay structurally sound outdoors.
